I thought I would share this epic day with everybody... I went up to Clearlake back in late November to funfish/prefish for our TOC coming up in December. I went to an area where I won the TOC last year and set a new 4 fish and 8 fish (running) club records. I got in at a FREEZING 6:15 am!! I had no idea I was about to have the day of my life!
By 8:10 in the morning I had just shy of 35 lbs, I was thinking if I can beat my previous best limit of 36 lbs and change that I caught back in the keys on March 23rd weekend of 2014. Included in that day at the keys was my very double digit bass (10.23). In the next hour by 9:15 am I had beat my old 36 lb limit. I had no idea I was about to shatter that old limit by 10 lbs!!
It was about 11:45 in the morning as a couple boats rolled up on me. I continue to fish my area for about another five minutes. I then decided to make a move and a short row to one more spot I had, even though I was having the day of my life. After a quick row I grab my jig rod and made a short cast to a very specific boulder. I gave my jig a few hops till I contacted the isolated boulder, then a long pause followed by a extremely slow "pull" ... THUMP!!! The hit was so hard I instantly thought to myself it's a catfish !! All within that split second something just didn't feel right like the fish had instantly crushed it and dropped it at the blink of an eye. I hit the e-brakes on my hookset I was about to deliver. I let the jig sit there for a few seconds and the fish came back and ate it.
The so called catfish ended up being my second largest bass I have ever caught. The big girl came in at 10 lbs and 13 ounces and now just put my day at an unbelievable 45 lbs 9 ounces!! I seriously did not know what to do after that I thought about just going home ? LOL!! I continue to fish for a couple more hours and Caught a few more in the smaller range. I ended up with 45 lb 9 ounce..(and another limit for about 31 lbs)the bigger fish limit came in at - 10 lb 13 ounce, 9 lb 6 ounce, 9 lb 1 ounce, 8 lb 11 ounce and a 7 lb 10 ounce!
The drive home was all smiles!! I must of murmured- WTF and holy $&@" under my breath a hundred times!
After a few days passed I decided to go back to Clearlake, but this time with my buddy Robert on his stratos. We of course go fish the same area I fished (haha). Even though it was Monday and only 5 days before day 1 of the TOC,I didn't give 2 craps about "catching all my fish" or "beating them up" LOL, this area is a community hole and am well aware that all these spots get hammered on the DAILY!!! I mean cmon its Clearlake!! Home of the big girls... so if we're going to get em, we are going to get them!! We get to the area and fish for about 1 hour with not a sniff!! I continue to work the jig with content. I get my first bite and it's a nice 6 lber, on the very next cast I get HAMMERED!! I was totally out of position and had a really weird, delayed, crappy hookset. The fish instantly started ripping drag and out loud I said it's a catfish probably? she finally slid into the net and without missing a beat , Robert says- thats a 10 pounder !!
I immediately put her in the livewell as I fumble around the boat to find the scale. I put the beast on the cull em rite and she came in at 10.22 lbs !! I was in absolute shock!! I was in awe of how much "luck" that was raining down on me!! I was upset in a weird, sick and subtle sense! I wanted my buddy to catch this one! The drive up was all excitement as he said a few times- I want a 10 lber!! As hudds and big jigs were tied on the boat going up hwy 101! I was really pumped on the inside but did not show over celebration of the fish- lol, and the same time felt bad a little for my buddy. After a few pics we let her go to be caught again. We fished a few more hours to no avail. I knew where I was fishing for the TOC !! Lol. Clearlake continues to blow me away!! What an incredible fishery we have!! Can't wait for the new season !! See you guys soon... JASON Attached Images

Dang Jason, a bunch of fatties. Thats gonna be tough for you to improve on that 5 fish weight. I hope to get out someday. Another big storm this weekend and trying to get over a nasty cold is going to keep me off the water this weekend too.
