Oh Good, a Bass Fishing Movie

First of all, I'd just like to say that I'm not opposed to the presence of bass fishing in movies. In addition, I accept that, when approached from certain angles, it can be entertaining rather than ponderously boring. In fact, my single favorite moment in Jerry Maguire is when, near the end of the movie, Rod Tidwell is on a talkshow, and he talks about how a relative lost a limb in a bass fishing accident. I mean, that was hilarious! (That said, however, I'm not a big Cameron Crowe fan, so the things I like about his movies might be slightly unconventional.)

My point here is that I'm not pushing an anti-fishing agenda when I tell you that Fox Atomic's plans to make a movie based on the autobiography of that annoying, loud fishing guy who yells on ESPN sometimes is a terrible freaking idea. That annoying guy's name (and those of you who have no idea who I'm talking about should consider yourselves lucky and move on) Mike Iaconelli, and Fox just bought the rights to his life story, published (with the help from a couple of actual writers) last year as Fishing on the Edge: The Mike Iaconelli Story. While it's obvious why the studio is drawn to this guy -- He has tattoos! He's edgy! He pisses people off AND is good at his sport! -- it's much less obvious how they're going to turn his life into a movie that mainstream audiences will want to see.

Here's a real bass movie
