At Fountain Grove i have caught snails before on accident,  they are everywhere.  I once saw a lady actually going underwater and catching them to eat i guess

A few WTF's I can think of:

Few years back at a delta team tournament, just stuck 5lber on a shallow running crankbait, fishing it the same way my bait gets hammered, after a 3 minute fight, thinking it's a toad, a 3lb squawfish comes up foul hooked.

Nailed a 15+ lb channel cat at clear lake on a crankbait fun fishing with Carson and Terry in a spot we all were catching largemouth.

Of course my favorite, practice flipping a jig on the front yard, reeling it back on the lawn and out of nowhere, a hawk comes down, grabs my jig and starts flying off with it. The moment he feels pressure, he begins flying towards me, and at about 15 feet away, hit the breaks and lets go.

surferdave.....your number three wtf was pretty good, must say it takes talent to get a wtf when your bait is not even in the water.

Unfortunetly I was the WTF?  on the delta night fishin two years ago. We were on my friend's triton in disco and I said, "watch out, im comin to the back to take a leak, i'll be standing right on the other side of the motor." he apparently was suffering from short term memory loss(wonder why) when his back cast stuck the side of my head,(good thing it was a wacky hook), left a one inch cut right under my  ear, and managed to come undone but rip my hat right off the ol noggin in the process....i think we both said WTF!?! (he said it, I yelled it)

1. I was nightfishing from the bank at clear lake when i made a long cast and got bit before my line even hit the water.  While reeling my catch in, i'm thinking jeez they sure are hungry tonight, and it turns out to be a bat.  It went after my bait and got raveled in my line.  The bat was released safely.

2. I was fishing within casting distance of a friend, he was throwing a senko and i was throwing a spinnerbait.  I hook a fish, land it, and I noticed another line in it's mouth.  Turns out it was my buddy's senko, he never detected the bite and the fish swam 20 yards away to strike my bait.
I spent the rest of the day thinking, jeez they sure are hungry today.

3. On Day 1 of the last TOC, while fishing skylark launch ramp, i had set the hook on a slightly resistant feeling and after a semi-decent fight I land a nice rod and reel combo.  Yes! and it is already spooled up and has a swimbait knocked in the hook catcher.  "This spot is awesome".  Turned out to be Jered Brendel's rod which he had dropped in the beginning of the tourny.   WTF??

A couple of years ago I was fishing up at our 2 day clear lake tournement and caught a cat .... not a catfish, a MEOW cat ... I was fishing docks in one of the sloughs, throwing a sinko up under them and noticed a cat sitting there right in front of me ... I threw the sinko up under the dock and the cat went for it, actually went into the water to get at it ... It took off runnning before I could free spool the line and the cat jerked around and burried the hook into the roof of its mouth. I tried to get to it, but it chewed through the line and took off before I could help... It sat there with the hook hanging out of its mouth, spitting blood everywhere .... needless to say I paddled the hell out of there real fast, with the cat glaring at me .... poor cat

LOL.....Poor cat,I actually heard about that Mike, only i was told it was a frog, still dark and you set the hook on it....funny how stories grow huh.My WTF besides a 15lb. catFISH (amongst plenty others and a 1lb Crappie on a 6 inch swimbait) was a Bull Frog on a Brush Hog.LOL...I was also fishing with a buddy that threw his Frog into the muck and a crane of a looking bird took off with the frog hooked in it's foot,my buddie yelled "bird on,bird on!" and actually pulled him about 10 ft. (we were in our float tubes) before he came unbuttoned.

Today I was slow fishing a crank bait. All of a sudden I feel dead weight, then the rod bounces. I set the hook. More dead weight. Maybe a carp? No, no fight, just dead weight. WTF!  I real in the fishing hat pictured below.

hopefully not in one day...that would be over-limit on sprig... AND i think A.C. wins this one with the dead crow.   I heard those crows taste a little like spotted owl.

They were not in the same day...but they were the only 3 ducks I got all season worth talking about... From what I have heard crow has a flavor similar to that of a whooping crane...
