miguel, go to a hardware store and buy some zip ties and the round insulated pipe covering. Our you can use one of those Styrofoam water noodles the kids play with. All you need is zip ties and you are ready for the Tourney.

If I were just beginning I would go with 3/8 and 1/2 oz. A few Arkie heads with heavy wire for flipping and heavy cover and a few football heads with a lighter wire for open water. Stick with the basic colors, blk and brn then use trailers for color variation. I like beavers, twin tail yamamoto grubs and pork for trailers. They can make a difference, believe me.

I know a couple guys recommended 1/4 oz but for someone just beginning with jigs you will not have the feel you would with heavier jigs. Just a thought.

Lines for jigs are the same thing. I prefer fluoro for open water and braid for thick cover. Don't like mono anymore for jig fishing. If you limit yourself here, you're going to catch less fish. Period. Just the same with rods. Think of bass fishing like golf, you wouldn't use a putter to try to drive your ball 300 yards.

I could go on and on but you can ask me personally at Sonoma if you are willing to battle with the entire club/me. Everyone knows I'll have at least two or three tied on during that tournament!

Todd

alright i got 4 jigs all half oz. black/blue,brown/purple,black,and black/red, what color trailer's do y'all prefer with these combos? the guy at the shop said the brown/purple would probably be better for clearer water so that's probably what i will be searching for

i havent jigged a lot but i heard clearer waters means natural colors and muddy waters means dark colors...plus i heard when fishing deep you are better off using dark colors anywys.

Miguel,

So you just want the football jig heads? What size are you looking for? I have them from 1/4 to 1oz. Most painted either brown or black. I can give them to you for $1.25 each (close to my cost). Mine that I tie with fine round rubber skirts go for $2. Let me know.

Beware, these have the same wicked gami hooks on the Skinny Bear jigs (which run almost $4 each)...you might get addicted.

You can hit me up on iamdot@yahoo.com also.

Todd

Yeah i just want the jig head with the hook with no guard, well since i never fished a jig people have been saying to go with 1/2 oz. i guess i will take two 1/2 oz. and 2 1/4 oz. and black would be good, i will probably be fishing these more out in open water what would you prefer to throw them on i got 20 pound power pro braid with no leader or just strait 12 pound mono? Thanks

These do have a weedguard on it but you can always cut them off. I actually prefer to keep them on.

Let me make sure I have the 1/2oz ones in blk as I'm running a little low on those. I do also have 3/8oz if you wanted something in between the 1/2 and 1/4.

I would go with the mono (prefer fluoro) over braid in open water. Not sure if it makes a huge difference but just that much easier to break off when you're fishing deep.
