I will not lie to you. The ticks there are HELL in the spring. Durring the summer and into the fall there are fewer. As long as you spray you pant legs arms and neck with a repelant all should be o.k.

check this study out, it was found on Wikipedia;

"When the deer population was reduced by 74% at a 248-acre (100 ha) study site in Bridgeport, Connecticut, for example, the number of nymphal ticks collected at the site decreased by 92%"

I have a feeling the overpopulation of deer in Marin county has something to do with the massive tick population. Nicasio is the perfect storm for tick habitat, they have grass, brush, water and a boat load of deer... I beg you DJ please help my county out by bagging as many deer as you and the rest of your club can this summer. I know I will do my part.

i herd that ticks also fall out of trees  i use to fish a place that was really windy and seemed like it would rain ticks at times.  I never had one burrow into me but had them land on my tube before,  i would be down to fish out there that is if i can find someone to drive

 I would love to pick off my share, but the problem is when season starts they cross the road ad go right to the lake. We all know that if i drop one by the lake i will go to jail for poaching. If they stay on our property i will do my best to thin them out.

I have a question?  I have 5 kids that I need to take fishing.  I'm going to be in Marin and I don't want to go to far.  Kent lake and Nicasio are both close.  Which lake is going to be kid freindly.

seriously what the heck kind of comment is that? don't even get me started on that subject. I work with people in the city that have the same mentality and they tell me I am a murderer for hunting as they pick out a freshly wrapped package of beef from Safeway or shove a burger down their throat. I tell you what, when they start selling black tail deer, elk, wild boar, bear, and pheasant at Safeway I will think about giving up hunting.... On second thought no I won't...

Basshog, unless your kids like to hike I would say nicasio. just douse them with bug repellent or stay on shore as much as possible. its not to hard these days because the water is dropping. you can also hit up places like Stafford in novato, or Bon Tempe or Alpine that have easier access from the parking lot.

Deer Deer...DJ put some feed, corn, hay whatever deer likes to eat.  I would spread it so it won't look like a feeding station.  Then come the fall knock them dead and make me some sausages out of them.  Any pigs on your ranch, I am down to take some pigs as well.  I'm all about pest control.

i think it should be legal for people to hunt hunters as long as they eat them it should be alright to thin em out and would help with the population of people.  I dont eat venison pork or turkey

Basshog,

I agree with AC. Nicasio would be a great place to take the kids fishing. Very easy for them to walk around. If you decide to stay out of the long grass, then there is less liklihood of them getting ticks on them. Although, if you want to catch some of those good quality bass, then you'll have to take a hike in to some of those lesser known fishing spots.

Kent is great, but I don't think it is a good place for kids. Some of those areas can get a little steep, and as I've said before, people have fallen into the lake.

Andy, thanks for clearing up the dog matter. If there was anyone on here that would have known it was you.

It seems like someone already mentioned this before, but it I'll say it again just in case. It seems like it would be a good idea to one day have us all bring our kids to a nice pond or so and let them beat the crap our of fishing for bluegill and little bass. Great time for all and great promotion to the sport for our future anglers.

Yo Dale...Take the kiddies over to Stafford. Great bank access. Lots of Gills(some BIG ones too) and If I remember correctly Quite a few bass. We park inside the gates and walk all around the lake. If they get bored of the fishing there is also a a small park for them to play on....Really easy walk for them! No serious hiking unless they want to!
