As some of you know I have designed and poured baits for quite some time. I thought I would let you guys know that I have been working with Maverick worms up here in Lakeport developing a new paddle tail swimbait, and it is ready. After about a month of designing and 7 prototypes I finally got it right. Here are the highlights: The bait is hand poured from the same soft plastic used in Maverick worms. It is three dimensional (no flat side) and looks a lot more like a real minnow than a Basstrix or tube type paddletail. It is poured with a curve to the tail section so that the tail runs straight behind the bait and not above it when retrieved. The bait features a rattle pocket in the belly, hook guide on the bottom (front and back) and a hook slot on the top. It swims much slower than the other types and will wake on the surface without dishing out and flopping over. You can actually get it to trap and release air as it swims. In the midrange speeds it swims much like Basstrix or Money minnow with a few notable differences. The head doesn't wag quite as wide and it doesn't tip side to side quite as much, this results in a much more realistic swimming action. The bait should be rigged on 6/0 weighted hook (Falcon for example)we are also working on a weight that can be crimped on to your favorite hook and can be cut to the desired weight so you don't have to buy a bunch of different weighted hooks anymore. It is also designed to stand up when fished on the bottom.
Last week a guy fished it for the first time on Clearlake and caught about 45 fish and had a limit over 20 pounds. They ended up being fairly durable, he actually caught 12 fish on one bait. We are going into production this week, and I am still working on colors. Western Sport Shop in Santa Rosa has placed an order and should have them on the shelves by next week. Outdoor Pro Shop is looking at them and should make decision this week. You can also buy them direct. They are selling for about $8.75 for a package of 3. I worked really hard on making them swim like the real thing and was able get the action I was after. Check about the photos and give me call if you have any questions or would like to get some. Let me know what you think of it. Thanks for letting me get the word out.

P.S. for now we are stocking the following colors for imediate orders: Chart Shad, Threadfin Shad, Ghost Shad, Mardi Gras Shad, Black Hitch, and Neon Brown Hitch. The others will be special order 12 packs or more.

I just finished the Baby Bass and Rainbow Trout colors. These Photos don't do justice to how they really look. These baits unfortunately will have to be about $3.25 per bait. They are much more time consuming and use more material but they look great.

Thanks for the strokes. I am pretty proud of the bait, it looks like nothing else (except a live bait fish) in the water. I would like to see them in Outdoor Pro as well. Give them a call or when you are in there ask for them. In the mean time you can call or e-mail me and we will send some out to you. As an introductory special the shipping will be free on direct orders of 10 packs or more. The baits are $8.75 for a package of three or $2.75 per bait 10 or more in the same color (because we only need to use one package). We want them as affordable as possible but they are not easy to make. I just worked up a Baby Bass color today and it looks really, really sweet. Those unfortunately will have to be $3.00 a piece because of how long it takes to pour them right. I promise that it is worth it though. I will have photo up tomorrow night of the color. Hopefully I will have the Rainbow Trout and the Bluegill up tomorrow as well. Let me know what you would like and we will get them out to you.
Western Sport Shop in Santa Rosa will have some next week in: Chart Shad, Threadfin Shad, Mardigras shad, Ghost Shad, Black Hitch, and Neon Brown Hitch.
If anyone has a color they would really like to see please let me know and I will see what I can work up. Thanks again for the good word I hope to talk to you soon.

Hey Benno, great looking baits! Just two questions: How long are they? Are they available in different sizes? The hitch and chartreuse shad are my early favorites but I can't wait to see the bluegill and baby bass. I'll probably get some Xmas money to send your way.

Hey Doug,
Theya are 5" long but the over all profile is the size of a meadium large baitfish. They take a 6/0 hook. I couldn't make them any larger and still keep the standard Basstrix type rigging. At this time they are only available in the one size but if they do well (and so far they are) we will be working a larger size, maybe 8". Let me know if ypou have any other questions.

I would like to order some of the hitch as well. Put me in for a 20 pack, how about 5 of the Rainbow Trout pattern as well for the Lake Sonoma bite. 25 total.

Mike Bogges

Let me know when they will be available.

Just so you all know Western Sport will get their order over the weekend when I come down, and have them for sale next week. They are getting a dozen bags each of: Threadfin shad, Ghost Shad, Charteuse Shad, Mardi Gras Shad, Black Hitch, and Neon Brown Hitch. They will be splitting the order between Santa Rosa and San Rafael. If they sell quickly then they will reorder more right away. Thanks for all the good feedback. I can't wait to start hearing stories about giant toads smashing this thing. I can't wait get out and catch a few myself. By the way we have picked the final version of the weights I talked about in the first post. Here are a few photos to check out. We should be making them after the first. Let me know what you think. I'm not sure what they will cost yet. Everyone have great holiday.

Hey guys,
I want to thank everyone who ordered swimbaits this week. And I want to send a special love hate thank you to Mr. Rich Caro for posting a link to Western Bass.com. I have been pouring until 2:00am (not kidding) to fill the orders by Christmas. I owe you a few baits and a punch in the arm. Love ya Bro. Well I got them done and they are going out today to all who ordered them. Next week we be pouring some stock so let me know if you need some. I have already recieved a follow up order from The guy who killed them on the Mardi Gras Shad last week. Apparently they are much more durable than we expected. he actually caught 30 of his 45 plus fish on two baits last Thursday. He was fishing them on a small jig head crazy glued to the nose, which I'm sure helped. We will see how they do on a Falcon hook. I will be delivering the order Western Sport late this afternoon, so they should have them up tomorrow or Monday. Everyone have a merry Christmas and keep stick'n em.
