I was thinking about trying to fish the petaluma river from my kickboat.
I would launch from the marina right next to the 101.
Just looking to see if anyone has fished that area.
Is it worth it, what kind of fish are around the area?
I do have a delta stamp but it looks like if you go under the bridge you do not have to have a delta stamp.

As far as I know, you dont need a delta stamp to fish the Peatulma River... From 27 years of fishing there, the best place to fish is right outside of the Marina, just before the channel. The water moves in a circular pattern, and the Striped bass follow it..You'll get a school of shakers swimming in there and its a lot of fun..Best time to get there is when the tide is comming in. Use chopped anchovies for bait. Also, casa Grande HS has a fish hatchery at the school, and they farm coho and steelhead. I have seen quiet a few dead salmon floating around there. One went about 30 pounds, so if you are fishing from a float tube, watch out...you might get towed around... good luck

I am not sure but i think you only need the stamp south of the hwy37 bridge. In that area the best place to fish right now are the little feader creeks at the top of the tide as it starts to go out. Use pile worms on a sturgeon setup and you should pick up a few stripers.

If your fishing form a kick boat I would be using lures. Like a lipless crank bait, hairrazer, grub, tub or even a broken back rapala. These will all produce. I fish that area quite often. I go with my kids for strippers and have had some great times. Look at the tide you want water to be moving or don't go. Also if you go up to the Black point and fish there are going to run larger. The rail road tracks are a great starting point. There is a bait shop on the water there. Leonard's bait and tackle. 762-7818 these guys can help you out as well. Also the guys a Petaluma sport and dive they now there stuff.

I'm just waiting until March and I will be out on Tamales for the Perch.

Best of luck.

thanks alot for the replies. I was not quit sure if it would be more delta like with black bass, but I definitly like catching stripers.

Wen you say black point do you mean novato area or are you talking about the marina off the 37?

So you take your kickboat out in tomales bay? do you launch from Miller Co Park?

I dont know about you, but Tomales Bay is a famous pupping ground for the Great White and for Sand Sharks.. I have seen Sharks that go bigger than the boats that fish for them in the bay...being in a float tube might just be like inviting you to lunch...But, but the Tide restraunt is always good for perch and flounder...cut bait seems to work

If you want to have alot of fun in tamales go pump some blood worms at bodega head and use that for bait you will pick up some large rays 60+ and maybe a 7 gill going 6 feet or more. Try hauling that in out of a kick boat
