I''m fishin' the Russian in Cloverdale for steelies (as usual) if anyone wants to join me. I've got some great roe from a RR fish. It's candy to those fish... if you can find 'em. The river is getting into shape nicely with all the rains we've had so this is probably going to be your best shot at nailing a metalhead.

10 pounds is a real nice steely the state record is 25 or 26 pounds i think.  U think a spotted bass or a smally can fight go hook up with a steelhead by far in my opinion the hardest fighting fresh water fish,  im not sure though if they are considered that since they run to the ocean and go back to the rivers

Basically, the only difference between rainbow trout and steelhead is that a steelhead swims into the ocean and comes back. Some people do claim they're completely different species, but you'd need a geneticist to tell them apart.
The steelhead in Lake Sonoma started as the variety that swam to the ocean but became land locked when Warm Springs Dam was built.

So yes, those fish in the Russian are undisputably Steelhead. No question about it.

PS - I didn't mean to hi-jack this thread. I just thought I'd throw my offer out there if anyone was interested.

Yes sir a steelhead is basically a sea run trout.  How does the river look up were u live i would think it would be blown out do to the rain
