So with the new rule we put in last year too not do double points in team tournaments....We are hoping to add 2 team tournaments next year!

the only reason I was not a fan of these team tournaments in the past was just that, the double points and now that thats gone...I'm all for them! So I cant think of any cons....my pro's would be 1. the excitement of the team draw, 2. the fact that if i don't catch a fish my partner might, and 3. the chance to meet and strategies with a new angler...

What do you guys think? Pros vs Cons

I always found team tournaments exciting. Although some people will always have the I'll do my thing, you do yours and we'll see how we come out at the end of the day, I think true collaboration leads to better results. A couple years back you did a team circuit, and I thought that was a really fun format. Because of AOY and TOC, you primarily want anglers to rely on their own showings for the majority of events. In general I don't think there are any cons to the team format. As for pros, you learn more working with another angler, and because you have a partner to rely on, you are willing to take more chances. A couple years back I remember fishing one with Terry. Although I had zero confidence in throwing a 7" wake bait, knowing Terry was throwing spinnerbaits, or a senko behind me gave me the luxury to go for bigger fish. It ended up working out well.

I am all for it. I think it benefits the club as a whole and encourages making new friends.  Just my 2 cents.

Team events can be good for you and bad. They're good when you are in the running for angler of the year or the TOC and you get skunked and your partner slays for you. Or if your new with the club and you get a seasoned partner who teachs you a thing or two about the area your fishing.

It sucks when your in the points for TOC or AOY and you do good and the angler on your coat tails blanks, but his partner whos not in the points doe's good. It also sucks when at the end of the tournament you don't have any fish to contribute. That bugs me the most, I hate that feeling. Other wise, I think one team event a season is good.

If it's team tournaments you like, then maybe the club should offer a seperate curcuit for it and make it a blind draw team event curcuit. Now that would be cool. 100% payback.

I like the team tourneys. There is no disadvantages to having a partner except I have to split my money with them. But seriously,I think it makes it fun and interesting as long as you catch YOUR five fish there`s no way having a partner can hurt you.At least thats my mindset when I fish a team tourney. There`s been a couple of times where my partner bailed me out also which is cool(thx Scotty and Mike) but thats the cool thing about team tourneys there`s no I in team.

I feel the same way, there is no way a team tourney can hurt you. If you do your job your teamate can only help you. I think it brings the club together and allows you to make new friends. I think its great for new members to meet other members and learn a bit about the lake they are fishing. If we really want to keep teamates close together take the idea I had last year and only allow one livewell per team. You will not be able to roam the entire lake without your partner if you only have one well...

I can think of many pros as cons but the thing that stands out to me is it COULD change the aoy race. no doubt about it.  That's the biggest reason for me not liking the team format. One other point is that there is no spacing rule, one team member could be a mile away from the other and it is still considered a team.  The way it is now, its only    team weigh in.   Why not have a few tourneys like we did a few years ago with team format, separate from the regular tourneys.  Then people get there team fix.
Just my concerns, and regardless of what we choose i will compete, and support the club.

AC's recommendation of one livewell works fine if you get to pick your team partner, but I agree with some others that team tournaments can change the AOY and TOC.

Here is the CON I see with the one livewell concept:  If someone needing the points for AOY or to get into TOC wants to row some distance to a spot that can win the tournament and his partner can't handle the row, who loses out on that draw?  Both!  Either they don't make the row and possibly don't find fish, or the TOC/AOY contender makes the row and tells his team partner to just float around and not worry about catching fish (that's no fun!).  Frustration all the way around in both situations.

That makes sense Matt. How about doing it on a lake like Highland Springs or Blue Lakes where 5 fish are sometimes hard to come by on tourney day? Those are also lakes that everyone can stay together on. The longest row is 1000 yards...

Since we're on the topic. I wasn't qualified for the TOC the night before the last Delta event. If the Delta event was a team event and I was drawn with AC we would have had a blast fishing as a team and going home with the second place plaques and a little cash. Thats all good. Would I have been qualified for the TOC today? I don't think so. Please correct me if I'm wrong as I'm wrong all the time, just ask my wife. I'm all for one team event per season and maybe a seperate team format.

There is so many different variables that affect the toc or angler of the year and this is one of the many. It could go good for the individual or bad but that is part of the fun and mystique about it. You could do IF this and IF that regarding every tourney and have different results. I`m good with only 1 team tourney though thats reasonable and the one livewell idea is intriguing also. I always thought it was cool that our club has both formats,it makes us unique that we have team tournies and individual ones. Pretty soon we`re going to vote out all the traditions we`ve had for so many years and we`ll be just like any other fishing club. Thats probably one of my biggest fears about the club is how it is gearing towards making this like a professional bassmaster tour which is never going to happen we`re a float tube club. It seems like the more attention we get the more restrictions we have and we gain little or nothing in return. It takes the fun out of it,just an old-timers opinion though.

Remember the days of Sanj? When a pontoon boat was one of those big alum boats old folks cruised the lake on. Back when it was all round tubes. Ah, those were the days my friend. I think we'll always have a team tourney or two each season and I think some of the best traditions will always be there. It was fun running like pirates at Clear Lake, The Delta, Berriessa and Sonoma, but now we're doing it legally and over the table at the lake that needs running the worst, Clear Lake.

Oh those were the days back then
