I've been getting all my gear ready for next year. While going through it, i realized I didn't have any rip baits to my arsenal. Therefore, I was going to go and buy some.

I've picked up a couple of the Staysee 90's. However, I didn't know if it were better to pick up the Pointer 78 or Pointer 100 as well. It seems that the only difference between these two is that the Pointer 100 is just an inch longer.

If you had to choose between the 78 or the 100, which would you get for the lakes that we fish? Or, if you think both are needed for a certain reason that would be a valid response as well.

Thanks for helping a brother out with your answers.

First of all they both work. It depends on what the fish want, if they are after smaller baitfish the 78 is the way to go but most of the time I have landed my bigger jerkbait fish on the pointer 100. Its a bigger profile and in the recent past it has seemed to catch bigger fish. The 100 is also easier to throw on a casting setup as it is heavier then the 78. They both work but if I had to only choose one I would get a pointer 100 in either Table rock, Chart Shad, Ghost minoow or American shad depending on how clear the lakes I plan to fish are...

Well, I would agree with AC. Love most of the LCs I do own and like AC said, they both have their time and place. I love the 100 but have been put to school by other guys throwing the 78s on Clear Lake.

That being said, if I were to only go with one I would say the 100 in char shad.

Thanks for your responses guys. Now that makes things a little easier on me. I think I might just get one of each in the same color and call it a day. That is unless Santa is listening and wants to bring me more of each (or unless someone hears about a 20% sale going on somewhere).

Thanks again guys!

If you are not too picky you can get some for 50% off at Hi's tackle box in South San Francisco. They have quite a few pointer 78's  and a couple of pointer 100's. I know I stocked up last week with some of the better colors but they have plenty left from what I saw.

Well, it looks like I now have my Pointer 78 and 78DD taken care of. After my last posting, a buddy of mine happen to be at Hi's and told me they are having a 50% of Lucky Craft sale. Therefore, I was able to get the 78 and 78DD in Table Rock Shad and Pearl Ayu. A lot of the colors that you had mentioned were gone already. He was naming some other colors that I have not heard of, so I just told him to pick up those 4. He also said they do have LVR 7 and 10's as well as some LV 100's. I asked about the LV500's, but they told him those were all gone.

Just thought I'd share with you all since you guys helped me make this decision. Now i just have to fnid a deal like that for the Pointer 100's. By the way, it seems Hi's is also having a sale on Yamamoto baits as well (in case you were interested in any).

I beat you to the punch I think I was the one that got all the good colors last week.. Table rock is a great color and its very similar to chart shad, that is the color that stuck the 6 plus pounder in vallejo.

Ah, so your the guy that did it. Well, good for you to get a head start on the sales. I wouldn't have found out if my buddy didn't tell me.

Now i just gotta get on the water with you so you can teach me how to work those darn things. I wish I had a pool to test it out, but I guess I'll just have to try it in a lake instead (and hopefully hook a fish at the same time). Then again, the Marin lakes have been clear and low, so maybe now is a good time for a trial run.

Damn....that's wrong AC you didn't let me know! I'm a LC whore you know!

BTW - this is the time of year to use them. You can catch almost every kind of fish with them...bass, trout, bluegill, crappie, stripers, etc., etc....clear and low is GREAT conditions to use them!

Dom, I think they are fakes. I bought a few and they don't look just right. A few details that look different. I haven't tried them in the water yet.

AWALK - Med or Med/hvy rod would work great. I like a soft tip. My current rod is a Loomis CBR845

I love the bend of those gloomis cbr series rods...don't lose much fish with the slow tip.

I think those luckycraft lures are fake too but they look identical in body.
