get rid of team tourneys all together or make them 3 fish limits. If everyone caught limits at every tourney I would be ok with it. Fact though is most of the time it only takes 3 decent fish to make a top 10.

Angler A has a good day and catches 3 fish for 9 lbs. He is paried with angler B who doesnt do so well and brings in 0.

Angler C catches 3 fish at 9 lbs. He is paired with angler D who also brings in 3 fish for 9 lbs giving them 15 lbs total.

Angler E catches 2 fish for 6 lbs and is paired with angler F who also catches 2 fish for 6 lbs giving them 12 lbs total.

Angler A gets screwed when he did just as well as C & D and beat E & F, and  angler b gets all the benefit(no throwout, at min. 10 more pts.)

If its just for fun, OK, cool format, let's get to know each other. 95% of the time though you dont see your draw partner til its time to cull, and there is getting to be a good bit of $ involved. 15 anglers are fishing for a huge pot in a couple weeks. i believe that qualifying for the TOC should be on your own merrit and not be potentially impacted by luck of the draw.

I would have saved it for the meeting but unless I make a career change getting to a Dec. meeting is going to be near impossible.

Although there have been times where I might have questioned the team format, I have found it to be a great time to talk to someone I don't know and get to know them a bit more. I thought it was really beneficial to the long term impact of the club as you're forced to fish with someone and hopefully come up with a good plan that works for the two of you. When you think about it, it does help many times to do a blind draw tourney and adds to the excitement of the tournaments!

I would also highly doubt there ever was a time that an angler did not make the TOC based on the points they got/lost from a team tourney.

I would not recommend changing the point format as you would end up giving up more points than normally would be given out.

I also like the team tourneys, its a chance to have two lines in the water and figure out the bite. I always talk over my strategy with my partner before we launch no matter who it is. I have carried a team in tournaments and at the same time been carried by a teammate. Heck there are Pro-am tourneys that use the same format and it never seems to create any issues at that level. When it comes to the points, I still don't understand why its setup the way it is. A second place finish is a second place finish right? shouldn't it be worth 49 points? I know there was a reason for it but I never understood the rule. I understand the points spread during a team tourney is less due to the fact you can have 50 guys but its scored as 25 teams but I still don't get the points gap between places...

I see where you are coming from Jon. In the right circumstances it could hurt a guy in a AOY hunt but at the same time it could help them. Its luck of the draw at its best. For every person hurt by the format there are the same number of guys helped by it. When it comes down to it, if you are a stick and deserve AOY, (I for one am not there yet), you most likely caught fish even if your partner did not, and the points would not be that big of a swing weather you fished alone or with a teammate. I know there are others out there that hate the team tourneys but again for some reason I really like them. I like the way it adds a twist to the season, and I like how for just that day, I have a teamate to help me out. (or hurt me)

Its already impacted an AOY. I consider myself a good stick. Ive caught some fish at the last 3 team tourneys when my partners have caught 0. Not a knock on them at all, it was a tough bite all 3 times, but that is the norm with this club and had it been individually scored the outcome would have been much different. Im pretty sure you would have had a different winner this year back on the Delta had it been individual. Im all for the comraderie but I guess it comes down to the direction the club wants to go. it seems to be going towards big paydays as thats what the last 3 presidents have focused on. Things like this dont go along well with trying to create a "pro" style atmostphere. Think about how much pre-fishing some of us put into it. i fish differently when Im not worried about catchin keepers for pts. Its why I didnt fish the sonoma teams this year, it wouldnt have been fair to a partner I could have drawn that was trying his hardest to make a TOC when all that mattered to me was being in the money or not. Ya know?

switch  to a 100 point system.... get rid of team tournies... no meeting points.officers to make head count after tournies to make sure all are safe. if you leave early and dont contact an official then you get last place minus 25 points. i know i'm missing some other things i'll think of moreand let you know!

night team tourney with regular points. Also up the points to either 75 down or even 100 down. With our average showing this year and possibly more next year there is a chance that if we stay with 50 someone will get a 0 or even negative points for fishing a tourney. A zero would turn people away.

I think 100 is way to much.  Miss one tournament and your screwed.  If we change the team tournament to regular scoring it shouldn't be an issue.  We have never had a minus yet have we?
