Are any of you guys into bowfishing? I went for the first time since I was in high school today, and got to remember how much fun it is. I used to bow shoot gar growing up in Texas, but there's no gar here. Clear Lake has plenty of carp though! My first arrow in twenty years brained a 15 pounder and stoned him. Not even a wiggle out of him. It was like riding a bicycle. My partner for the day hit one, but it got off. It looked like he hit it in the tail and it went nuts and pulled off. I ended up with three, but we only fished for an hour and a half or so. I hit two head shots, and got one spinal hit from directly above. We used a borrowed bow and pretty ratty gear today, but both of us will be ordering some more proper gear tonight. If you like the idea of mixing your fishing with some bowhunting action, give the bowfishing a try. It's really more challenging than you might think, and you can help rid Clear Lake of some nasty carp.

That sounds cool, can you guys do it from a pontoon boat?

That might be tricky. The higher above the water you are, the better. The guys that do it a lot usually have a flat bottom boat with a wooden platform built up above the deck. Some folks put a platfom on a bass boat. I just took my bass boat and shot from the deck.

Best fertilizer in the world. I don't know what happens with the thousands that will be shot this weekend at the annual carp shoot tournament on Clear Lake. I don't know if they are sold for fish meal, or fertilizer, or just dumped or whatever. Nor do I much care. They're carp. They're overpopulated, they tear up the vegetation, and wreck bass spawning areas. Mine are fertilizer.

Yeah, we took my Champ. Grass and goo everywhere. It cleans off though, so it's all good.

Iv'e watched as those guys take aim and shoot those slimy cridders. It looks like a blast. If you get a huge pot you can add chicken livers and dogfood and boil the fish with everything mixed in for 24 hours. Then freeze it for a week. Put it out in the sun for another week and eat it with corn bread and whipcream. MMM MMM GOOD, LOL Just kiddin. Post some pics of those craps Travis. If you do the tournament be sure to get some pics of the pile of carp brought in.

The guy I took with me was all hot to do the tourney this weekend, but I'm working Saturday, and fishing the ABA on Sunday, so maybe next year. The guy running that tournament said he already has over 120 boats signed up. I did get a picture of the last fish of the day. The first two were bloody wrecks, and it would not do my boat carpet justice to hold them up for pictures.
