I'm just wondering if its feasible to have a paid members only section of our forum.  We have club issues that spring up from time to time that we air on this forum that get a little nasty.  Anyone seeing some of the stuff we complain about  would think we are a bunch of *** *****.  I include myself in this and have been known to participate at times.  I fully believe all opinions should be heard but club business might be better left off this forum and moved to a more private venue.  I hate to see things get ugly and I hate even worse for the public to see it.

Maybe Mike can chime in and let us know if it's practical and how much extra work it would be.

I know this might seem like a good idea right now with what is going on over in another thread but hold on a minute. This forum is probably one of the best tools to recruit new members to the club. Say you are curious about float tube/kickboat fishing and run across the SCBBBBBBBC web page. The forum is the first link you see so you come on over. You find out that Deacon just had a birthday, Anthony got engaged, Steve can't hook a fish, Mike Williams is wound up a little tight, Rich likes BASS, Dom caught a big fish and won a boat tournament, you get the picture. Maybe you decide that you might like to introduce yourself and ask about fishing with the club. You get some positive feedback and feel welcomed. Next month you show up at a tournament, have a good time, join the club and keep coming back. Without the forum being public, that might not happen. Just my 2 cents...

You missed my point Doug.  The forum should remain public for all to see.  I am talking about a link to a password protected forum for club members only.  You would use that site for gripes and grievances and all the things not necessary for the public to see.  The main forum would be used for everything else just like we do now.

my 2cents is to keep it public. We are all human and sometimes we have stuff we disagree on. Letting everyone see it gives them a chance to read and learn.  Keeping certain issues hidden and secret just seems over the top for a bass club.

Maybe the forum moderaters just need to zap post that are getting ugly before they get going!

Dave, I realized what your point was after I had posted but wanted to go to bed. But I still think we should leave things as they are. If we had a private forum, too many topics might end up there that should be in the public forum. We also might feel a little too free to let it fly and it could get really ugly. Maybe we should just be a little more careful about what we say and how it might affect others. I know I've said a few things on here that I probably shouldn't have. I like this forum and it needs to be lively once in a while to keep it interesting.

I was hesitant to respond to this since I am a paid member but haven't fished with you all this year. I hope I don't get in trouble.

I thought about putting together a members only forum a long time ago for BNT but weighed the pro's vs.. cons and it wasn't worth it. By doing so you will loose substance on the regular forum. I know we all would hope only the gripes and grievances would go on the members forum, but it wont. Trust me having members only forums will take away from the regular forum. After a while guys will only post reports there, cause they don't want the world to know, next thing you know the regular forum will be a ghost town and there will be no info for a new member.

On another note I seriously doubt any newbee that wants info on the club read more then 3 posts on the 3 page topic with date change proposal. most guys that are not a part of the club will get board and get out of that thread and go back looking for reports, pics, etc.

Now with that all said. The thread that started this thread should have been handled different. Rich as president and the author of the thread should have put a stop to it as soon as it started to go the wrong way. Nuking a thread like that is bad and can make people feel like there is something to hide. A simple post from the author or president stating: This is about to cross the line, lets not talk about it anymore and we can discuss it as a group at the meeting. If the thread continues on and starts to go in a negative direction then its up to the moderator to put an end to it all by nuking it. IMO only should a political type post be nuked after a warning from either the President or the Author of the post.

Nuff said, hope I didn't offend anyone. If so my email is team_okuma@yahoo.com feel free to email.

any forum has it's differences. this is one of the most chill forums. people get kicked off daily at fishsniffer, westernbass etc.  I think that has happened once here.  It's a good community as most people have either met eachother, or sent pm's back and forth.

Fishermen are extremely oppinionated, it's the truth.  Discussion/controversey will happen. Doesn't mean i dont repsect all of you being good sticks on the water, and im sure most all the fishermen here respect one another as well.

anyways, i just finished Mike Ike's book...time for me to go fishing
